Char Dham

Badrinath, Kidarnath, Hemkund Sahib for Sikhs, Gangotri and Yamunotri are some of the places where many tourists go to worship. They are located in Himalayas.

Every year many tourists visit these temples and sacred places to worship. The season to go to these temples is from April last till June last. There are many guest houses as well as dhramshalas where people could stay at the night.

In June 2013, in the middle of pilgrimage season, torrential rains and resulting flash floods nearly destroyed the Kedarnath town. Hundreds of people were feared killed and thousands of others (mostly pilgrims) were reported missing or stranded due to landslides around Kedarnath.

Initial aerial photos showed that the Kedarnath Temple itself was still standing amid surrounding debris due to its architectural design. However the temple complex and surrounding areas suffered heavy damage.

The Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib for Sikhs, Gangotri and Yamunotri are also heavily damaged. You can say that whole Uttarakhand was damaged. Many small cities like Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Deoprayag are also damaged severely.

The state government said that the yatra of char dhams may revive only after 3 years. Thousands of people died, many left homeless due to flash floods. Many people are saying that this is the cause of the global warming caused by us due to which the Himalayan glaciers are melting.

Reserches from many institutes are telling that there are 200 such glaciers are formed in Himalayas and hey may break any time beacause their walls have become weak. The tsunami came because one such glacier broke down. So we can imagine that what will be the condition when 200 glaciers will break!

Therefore, we should pray to god that he should forgive our sins and do not cause such disastrous thing in anyone’s life. And even we should be aware that we should keep our environment clean and beautiful so that such should not repeat again.
